We had the pleasure of chatting to Carlo Rovea, Global Supply Chain and Procurement Director at Infineum about the top strategic chemical supply chain directions and his involvement in LogiChem 2022.

How has COVID-19 changed chemical supply chain industry and teams?

COVID-19, coupled with some other recent extreme events has directly or indirectly triggered severe disruptions across the end to end supply chain of chemicals and beyond, in multiple areas as supply continuity and reliability, regional and global logistics, competitiveness, costumer and societal behaviours, labour market and talent management.

Do you consider those changes fundamental, or do they have short-term impact?

I view some of those changes as fundamental. I also view as significant and enduring the industry response in areas as risk management, digitalization and ecosystem thinking.

What are the top 3 strategic directions chemical supply chain should consider to thrive in a future environment?

1. Develop resilience, agility and visibility across value chains to counter the increasing volatility caused by the pandemic and other widespread disruptions.

2. Maintain competitiveness despite growing cost to serve and ever increasing customer expectations.

3. Develop sustainable product and service offerings, in order to support our customers, the markets we serve, and society as a whole in the transition toward a more sustainable future.

Tell us about your involvement in LogiChem this year

I will join a panel on digital transformation “What are the practical steps you can take to accelerate your digital initiatives to drive greater value across your supply chain and achieve the best ROI?” and also lead a deep dive working group on “What is your biggest post pandemic learning that forced you to review your end-to-end supply chain network and promote digitalisation even further?”
